Support Groups
A variety of groups are available to help individuals and their loved ones find the support needed to manage their unique health needs. New members are always welcome. All groups meet at The Medical Center Health & Wellness Center located off Cave Mill Road in Chandler Park unless otherwise indicated. Check our online calendar for upcoming meeting dates.
Alzheimer's Support Group - open to families and caregivers who need support in caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease. Staff from the Barren River Adult Day Care Center facilitate the group.
Brain & Spine Tumor Support Group - open to individuals who have or have had brain or spine tumors. The meetings include education on a variety of topics as well as support from health professionals and others who have had brain and spine tumors. This group is a component of The Medical Center's Neuro-oncology program.
Cancer Support Group - offers education and support to individuals with cancer, family members and caregivers. This group is a component of the comprehensive cancer program at The Medical Center. For more information, call (270) 796-4494.
Celiac Support Group - helps individuals with celiac disease follow a gluten-free diet by sharing recipes, cooking tips and ideas for navigating the hazards of eating out with gluten and other dietary intolerances.
Diabetes Support Group - open to persons with diabetes and their family members who want to learn about how to manage diabetes. The certified diabetes educator from the Diabetes Education Program facilitates the group.
FEAST (Food Education and Allergy Support Team) - a nonprofit group that provides education, information and support to food allergic individuals and their families. Each meeting has a specific topic or program of discussion.
Fibromyalgia Support Group - offers support and education for people who suffer from fibromyalgia, a chronic widespread pain in muscles and soft tissues surrounding joints throughout the body, accompanied by fatigue.
Interstitial Cystitis Support Group - offers support and education to individuals who have interstitial cystitis and their family members.
Mended Hearts - for individuals who have heart disease and/or who have had a heart procedure. This group is an excellent resource for patients of The Heart Institute at The Medical Center or patients of Healthy Hearts Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation. This groups meets at The Medical Center Auditorium. For more information, call (270) 796-6512.
Stroke Support Group - offers support and education to individuals who have had a stroke and their family. This group is a component of The Medical Center's Primary Stroke Center. Surgical Weight Loss Support Group (formerly Gastric Bypass Support Group) - offers education and support to patients who have undergone or will undergo a surgical weight loss procedure.
